No triple digits! Cool mornings in the 60&#8217;s, a constant breeze all day long, and highs in the mid-90&#8217;s. My drive over Thursday morning on rural Kansas back roads was almost spiritual.<\/p>\n<p>By the time I rolled into town, John and Jay had already staked out a shady spot by the pool, across the main road from the swap meet. We had dinner that evening with Mary, their mom, at Chuck&#8217;s Bar. My pal Mark Bracewell drove over Friday to enter a few model cars in Saturday&#8217;s contest. The Morrison brothers, Rich and Roger, dropped by to socialize. Rich had his &#8217;58 Mercedes 220 La Carrera Panamericana coupe. Roger drove his wife&#8217;s post-war Ford woodie.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Jay&#8217;s son Ezra, along with his kids, made the trip from Hayes to spend time with dad and Uncle John.<\/p>\n<p>The Saturday late afternoon drive home was of course warmer yet enjoyable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The big news for this year&#8217;s gathering was the weather.
