Stray Kat 500 Dewey 2014

Well, Rudy and I headed on down to Dewey again for the Stray Kat 500. Rudy has a knack for attracting the local fuzz at our meeting point. I met him on the on ramp to the 69 and there was a cop across the road looking across at him. We take off and in the rear view I notice that the big suv had come up behind where we were stopped. Anyway, off we went. An uneventful trip down and the weather was much better for driving than last years snow. Only downer was going through Baxter Springs, where a tornado had been a day or 2 earlier and destroyed some homes and businesses. A sad sight.

We went directly, pretty much – some minor GPS issues, to Daryl Starbirds Museum. It was cool to see the bubble tops and other custom cars. Not something you need to do every year, but its worth seeing at least once. Then over to registration and down town Dewey for the free feed. Saturday the weather was perfect really. It seemed to get off to a slow start, but by mid morning the town was pretty full. I heard 650 cars turned up? I didnt take that many pictures, as I enjoyed just doing nothing all day!

We’d cruised down and back at a leisurely pass as Rudy was looking after the ’46. But I guess on the way back he got sick of that, as I was sitting behind a pickup doing a tad under 65. Next thing Rudy screams on by us both, it gave me such a shock I almost dropped my midnight milky way chocolate bar… almost, but not quite, so I politely followed suite and picked up the pace.

Kudos to Mick and the Stray Kats for putting on the event. Its worth the drive (hint hint – next year!)
